The best man is an honorary position that comes with responsibilities. There are best man duties that are varied and very important that ranges from tasks before the wedding and right up to the big day. Luckily, a lot of men have done this before so you can always take advice and possibly, learn from their experiences. With that, it will be easier for you to perform your duties without having to go through trial and error.

One task a best man should do is help the groom rent or purchase tuxedos for himself, for you and the other groomsmen. As the best man, you may need to schedule and coordinate a time to fit the tuxes and make sure that everyone in the party gets fitted and if not, gives you their measurements. The groom may even ask you for help in picking out the tuxedo style as well – although majority of the grooms decide this one with their bodies.

Another task that will most probably be assigned as one of the best man duties is planning the bachelor party – and this one is probably the most fun task there is. You are in charge of planning the guest list, activies and everything there is need to plan for the night. As the best man, there are many duties that you need to do before the wedding and a whole lot more on the wedding day itself.

On the wedding day itself, your best man duties increase. You will be the one responsible for holding on to the wedding rings of the couple, and this is something that you should do and keep track of carefully. Best men are also sometimes asked to stand as witnesses for the wedding certificate, along with the maid of honor. You might be asked to help the groomsmen in finding the place to change into their tuxes and tell them how to usher in the guests, although this can be done by a wedding coordinator. However, if there isn’t one, you will be asked to pitch in. Finally at the reception, you will give your big toast and speech.

While the best man duties might seem a bit much for some, remember that you will probably need a best man someday yourself, who will also be responsible for doing this for you! It’s a big honor – so don’t take this lightly.
